A major influence on the lifetime and the efficiency of cleanable filter media are given by the operating parameters of the process, as e.g. the particle size distribution and the particle material of the collected powder, the face velocity at the media, the composition and Temperature of the carrier gas and the type of pulse jet cleaning. Therefore filter materials and surface treatment of the media is selected thoroughly by the manufacturer to guarantee an optimal filtration and cleaning behavior of his product in operation. The test of these media with regard to their operational behavior must thus be done as close as possible to the practical conditions, i.e. with regard to the operational parameters above mentioned.
The VDI 3926 describes two type of test systems for this application, whereas the Type 2 with a horizontal test duct showed special advantages with regard to a test close to practice:
- The very flexible Aerosol generator RBG 2000 allows to aerosolize reproducibly and constant many different powders from different processes as among others Cement, sand, titanium dioxide, milk powder and flame soot.
- To compare the filtration behavior at very high Temperatures the full test bench can be heated up to 250°C.
- For the research of the operation at high humidity’s, Palas® developed a new special humidifier module. This allows the control of rel. humidity up to 80% at 90°C.
- To monitor online the particle emissions the Aerosol spectrometer Promo® 2000 H is used. Due to the integrated heating this system is able to measure directly the particle size and concentration in Temperatures up to 250°C. Therefor condensation effect at the optical lenses are avoided by keeping the Temperature inside the Sensor on the same level.
