An expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membrane provides several advantages over conventional filtration media such as, high durability, hydrophobic, excellent chemical and thermal stability, superior cleanliness, very flexible, high flow rates, long service life and exceptionally strong nano-filament structure.
There are three main characteristics to be effective in gas filtration: 1) narrow uniform pore size distribution, 2) high porosity, and 3) as thin as possible with nano size filaments so as to remove undesired contaminants.
The ePTFE multi-layer combination provides a very narrow pore size distribution in a specific pore size range. By utilizing the design equations developed above with an appropriate mean flow pore size of the selected basic ePTFE single layer, it is possible to design the gas filtration media precisely to a tailor application.
