High pressure squeezing in the membrane filtration in pilot scale

In the last few years we saw a progressive increase in the use of filter presses in many different fields: mining and metallurgic, quarries, industrial treatment, sludge from ceramic or glass production, chemical and pharmaceutical; this wide range of applications is mainly due to the fact that the filter press is a very flexible machine, able to allow an adjustment both to the variation of the productive capacity and to the solids concentration.

As we know, the driving force that regulates the filtration process and defines important parameters is the pressure during the feeding and the squeezing.

As for membrane filtration, in particular, squeezing pressure is one of the main factors that helps to determine the filtration time and the achievable residual moisture; the standard value generally used is a squeezing pressure of 15 bar max.

The R&D Department of Diemme® Filtration has been devoting considerable efforts in this technology for several years. The work we are introducing here is focused on the use of high pressure in the squeezing phase, in order to define which benefits can be reached from exceeding the standard process values, depending on the type of product that is being treated....
