Experimental study of separation of polydisperse nano-scale aerosols in dust-loaded fibrous filter media

Different models for the description of separation efficiency of unloaded fibrous filter media have already been developed. However, projections onto dust-loaded filters still remain vague, especially the sudden rise of pressure drop at a certain point.

In this work, the influence of dust-loading on the fractional separation efficiency of nano-scale soot particles was examined within an experimental study. Fractional separation efficiency was measured for varying total dust loads and different filter media.

Using selected models, changes in their parameters were examined as a function of total dust load and particle size to observe its influence on particle separation mechanism and better understanding in filter clogging....
