Experimental study of separation of polydisperse nano-scale aerosols in dust-loaded fibrous filter media

Different models for the description of separation efficiency of unloaded fibrous dust filter media have already been developed. However, during operation dust is deposited within the filter medium, altering its physical properties. Therefore projections onto dust-loaded filter media remain vague.

In this work, the influence of dust-loading on the fractional separation efficiency of nano-scale soot particles was examined within an experimental study. Fractional separation efficiency was measured for varying total dust loads.

Using three different models for single fiber collision efficiency, model predictions were compared with measurement data. All models allow for a smooth fit onto the measurement data of the unloaded filter medium. For the dust-loaded filter medium it turns out that....
