Bag filter is one of the most popular dust collectors for various purposes and at conditions so that it important to design rationally to satisfy the requirements for particular application. Selection of fabric filter is one of the most important but difficult points in the filter design because its performance not only depends on many factors such as dust, gas and operation conditions, but also changes with time. However no common evaluation or testing method has been established except the testing method of filter efficiency and pressure drop, which is under the discussion in Committee ISO/TC 146/SC 1 to ISO 11057 "Air quality -- Test method for filtration characterisation of cleanable filter media".

Test method of the degradation characteristics of fabrics chemical and thermal attacks during the filtration is another important item to be standardized internationally because fabric filter is widely at the hot and chemical and hazardous gas conditions, especially municipal garbage incineration plants. At moment, Japan standardized 3 items such as the testing methods for durability for acid gases and temperature, and to sampling method of bag filter from a bag house in operation. We are also crosschecking with China on the degradation characteristics of fabrics at hot and acid condition.

In this presentation, Japanese Standard of test methods for acid gases and temperature, and sampling method of bag filter from bag house in operation. Also the results from Japanese-China cooperation measurement for the degradation of fabric by acid gases at high temperature will be introduced.
